PAN
Balenciaga Beats
PAN is a Berlin record label founded in 2008. Since opening up then, they’ve collaborated on events with MoMA PS1 in Long Island City and Berghain in Berlin. I wasn’t really familiar with any of their artists except for Yves Tumor and only came across them because of Yves’s feature on PAN’s first and currently only compilation, Mono No Aware, which translates literally to “the pathos of things” but more accurately "a sensitivity to ephemera," is a Japanese phrase for the temporality of things in life.
I don’t really know what that has to do with the compilation. PAN doesn’t do a good job of explaining it either, but the compilation is great. It’s mostly ambient songs by artists on their label. They did a vinyl release for it in 2017, but according to a friend who collects records, they’re not easy to come by. They’re going for like $50 a piece right now on Discogs.
You can also stream it for free below, along with one of their only releases of this year so far by Beatrice Dillon.
P.S. I took yesterday off, so I ended up taking off on the newsletter too.
